Well I'll tell you what. I am an older person now who has lost every single relative that I loved. They are all dead and every single one of them could at times be really irritating but I'll tell you what once they are gone you are going to miss them like hell!!!! And I knew the person who wrote this short story which became this movie and she was a very egotistical person who didn't like her family members. And thought it was funny to do so. She went to Herron Art Institute with one of my family members So if you folks out there still have quirky family members still living count your blessings!!!!

Care, my favorite Thanksgiving movie. They made 2 movies in 2023 like this around Oct/November release. Whatever Happens Next, like a Sleepless IN Seattle/When Harry met Sally, but with Fox Mulder and Meg Ryan. It's mostly a Rom-Com mostly real about two people most of the movie. The Holdovers has more people in it, about a moment in 1970 Christmas, a lot of talking, and I really don't think I saw even one computer in the movie.

All those years Downey Jr. was playing Ironman when he could've been doing more drama work. Such an intelligent, charismatic and thoughtful actor. Holly Hunter especially, she's got so much heart in this film, trying to keep it all together, while simultaneously disintegrating with her personal life disasters...and triumphs. Having a single sister or a single brother is a very special relationship. The ESP hug at the end of the scene makes me cry. Downey Jr. is projecting that he's fine from all the insults and misunderstandings, but in reality, he's tired of it, and is a little hurt that his own blood can't just get past his sexuality and lifestyle...but the one person who is completely judgment free is his dear sister.

If it wasn’t nicole kidman and it wasn’t RDJ then this movie wouldn’t work.. but alas here we are

Ever since I was a kid, my mom and I have watched this together every Thanksgiving season. As a kid, I hated Joanne. I thought she was unnecessarily mean and bitter. Watching it over the years, and seeing her break down after Claudia leaves, it breaks my heart. And the way Claudia looks away after the “I’d throw it away” line? I can’t imagine one of my siblings saying that to me.

As I get older I know how Claudia and Leo feel. When my brother-in-law talks about his work in the business I want to scream because I don't know anything about his line of work I don't know anything about boating canvas or landscaping.

Claudia was right about Joanna she is a bitch. The way she exposes how her brother getting married to his partner.

People say don't argue scream or fight with your family. Welcome to a family that's part of family different personalities where you want to choke your family to death but you're in a hospital where they have machines to bring them back to life.

The Point: We are all unhappy....every single one of us....it's part of why we are human and why we challenge and try to change everything....but still we get up...and try...AND LIVE FOR THOSE HAPPY LITTLE MOMENTS THAT KEEP US GOING.....there is no end goal to pure happiness....because once we attain that we want new ones.....

What makes this even better is that these memories were the memories everyone was talking about about and weren't on tape or pictures. They were special because no one else will remember those memories and be the wiser expect for the ones who witnessed them. Think of seeing the 2017 solar eclipse. Taking so many pictures and videos, but there is no tape or picture better than the picture as a memory in your own mind. tapeless memories are something to treasure.

Such a touching ending!! Thumbs way up for a beautiful ending like this
